Real Alternate Energy Sources
Solution in Homes
With the environment being such a big issue in everyone's lives, it's not just businesses that are finding them selves adjusting the way they operate. Homeowners, too, are now looking at how they can use different energy sources that are beneficial to the planet, while still being cost-effective. For instance, finding more popularity are solar panels, which are similar in look to normal roof tiles, but use the sun to store energy throughout the day and evening.
Another popular method of alternative energy for the home is that of wind powered generators. Consisting of a single pole erected into the ground, they have a small turbine attached at the top which generates and then stores the energy created; although these poles come in all different shapes and sizes, the majority of homes will be more than adequately covered by one that's around ten foot in height.
Hydro Power
One of the longer standing alternative sources of energy is water, or hydropower. This has been used in a variety of forms, either by simply boiling the water to use steam as the driving force, or using water itself to turn turbines. Many energy plants today use a combination of both hydropower and solar power, therefore harnessing as much energy as possible without the adverse effects on the environment from other sources.
One of the more surprising alternative energy sources, and probably one of the least known, is the energy that we derive from the moon. Although we don't harvest it from the moon directly, the gravitational pull that this small satellite offers our planet, and the resulting effect on the oceans and the waves that bring energy, offers a more than viable alternative. The way that the waves create natural power sources (similar to land-based hydro power methods) eliminates the dependency on other ways of garnering energy, and is especially beneficial to living areas around the coasts.
Waste Power
Perhaps it's ironic that we're trying to stop waste from destroying the planet, yet one of the most effective and a natural method of energy sources is waste itself. With the advances in technology and both governments and businesses/individuals looking to do their part, now everyday trash and farm manure can be turned into a source of energy. Now, instead of land fill sites growing in number, we're seeing environmentally friendly power plants in their place, to the extent that the land fills that are already there can be used to power the plant! Manure can be transformed into methane gas, which can in turn make electricity when burned.
It's not just today that these different approaches are happening, either. Scientists, world leaders and other visionaries are constantly evolving their ideas and coming up with ever-newer ways to both make and use energy. Although we haven't done ourselves any favors so far when it comes to the environment, the changes we're putting into place can be the start, so that in twenty or so years, we'll not only reap the benefit, but wonder why it took us so long in the first place.
